Dr. Burim N. Ametaj is a Full Professor in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science at the University of Alberta, Canada. He earned his Ph.D. in Nutritional Immunology from Iowa State University and completed postdoctoral training at Iowa State University, Purdue University, and Cornell University before joining the University of Alberta in 2004

Dr. Ametaj’s research program investigates the complex interplay between nutrition, immunity, and metabolism in dairy cattle, with particular focus on preventing periparturient diseases through innovative approaches such as immunomodulation, probiotic therapy, and metabolomic profiling. His group has developed novel vaccines, conducted pioneering work on intravaginal probiotic treatments, and advanced grain processing technologies aimed at improving metabolic health and productivity in ruminants.

He has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed scientific articles and has an h-index of 46, according to Google Scholar, reflecting the high impact and citation of his work in dairy science, immunology, and systems biology. He served as Editor of the book Periparturient Diseases of Dairy Cows: A Systems Biology Approach, which presents a paradigm shift in understanding metabolic disorders using integrative omics technologies. Dr. Ametaj is currently serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the open-access journal Dairy (MDPI), reinforcing his leadership in advancing knowledge dissemination in the dairy science community.
